As President of Alabama Women in Business (AWIB) for 2016, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our site. I am proud to be part of such a dynamic group of women business leaders from diverse backgrounds who take pleasure in coming together to learn from, encourage, and inspire one another, both professionally and personally.
This year, AWIB is on a mission, led by our Board of Directors, to create a unified vision for what our organization can and should be to provide maximum benefit for our members and to increase awareness of our organization through community involvement. Toward that end, we are working with a professional facilitator who is guiding us in identifying
- who we are,
- where we want to go, and
- developing a solid strategic plan for how we will get there.
In our first session with the facilitator, we devoted four hours to discovery activities designed to help us think clearly about what our organization can be. In one exercise, each of us imagined it was the year 2035 and wrote a news article about the organization at that time. While each of us envisioned things in slightly different ways, we learned that we truly believe these statements:
- our voice matters,
- we have the ability to make a difference, and
- women are essential to the future of economic growth and success in our state.
We had a 2nd facilitated meeting during which we clarified our vision and defined what activities and structure will help us achieve that vision.
There is a current opportunity to contribute to the future direction of the organization in a way that has not been available in the past and will probably not be available in the future.
As we pursue the future of Alabama Women in Business, we remain committed to providing women business owners with:
- a safe and supportive environment where women can support, encourage, and motivate one another,
- the chance to develop deep and lasting relationships with peers who expand our own personal belief about what is possible for us, and
- opportunities to work together in meaningful activities that benefit one another and our community.
Don’t be afraid to visit!
First time visitors have commented on what a friendly and welcoming group we are. They tell us it’s easy to meet people here and feel at home very quickly.
Our monthly luncheons, which feature time to network followed by a speaker, draw 35-45 attendees, approximately a third of whom are guests. Our “Let’s Get Connected Events” allow us more time to network, meet new friends, make deeper connections with old friends, and just have fun! Some of our past events have been a Women’s Self Defense Class, a Baron’s game, Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” team, and a charity social where we collected women’s clothing to be donated to the Pathways home.
There has never been such an exciting time to be involved with AWIB! Please browse our picture gallery, see how much fun we have together, and register for our next event. I would love to have the opportunity to meet you and welcome you there!
